Homeschool “Snow Day” = Snowy Science!
The salt lowers the freezing point of the ice and it’s super cold. We played a game of “hot potato” or shall we say “cold potato” while shaking and throwing it to each other!
1 Gallon resealable bag
1 Quart resealable bag
Ice
1/2 cup Salt
1 cup Half & Half
1 Tsp Vanilla
2 TbS Sugar
Fill the gallon bag half way with ice cubes. sprinkle salt over the ice. In the quart bag, add half & half, sugar, and vanilla. Seal the quart bag and place it inside the gallon bag. shake for 5-10 minutes until desired consistency. The salt lowers the freezing point of the ice and it’s super cold. We played a game of “hot potato” or shall we say “cold potato” while shaking and throwing it to each other! Curious about the science behind it? Check this out!

This is such a great experiment. We made ice cream and yogurt in my high school biotech lab. It’s great to see homeschoolers doing it too!
